The Calvary Birth Centre
The Continuity of Midwifery Care Service operates out of the Calvary Birth Centre offering woman centred care in a friendly, supportive environment. Care is flexible with appointments in the home, the community or within the Birth Centre.
Women receive pregnancy, birth and postnatal care with a known midwife, giving them the opportunity to get to know their midwife and establish trusting relationships throughout their pregnancy. Continuity of Midwifery Care is recognised for increasing women’s confidence during pregnancy, birth and early parenting and improving labour and birth outcomes.
The Calvary Birth Centre is ideal for women who;
- Have no medical or obstetric risk factors (low-risk)
- Want an active birth
- Plan to manage pain with natural methods
- Are planning a vaginal birth with minimal intervention
The Calvary Birth Centre offers spacious birthing rooms with double beds with partners encouraged to stay for the duration of the labour and birth. The rooms offer large baths to labour in, breastfeeding chairs, portable cots and air conditioning to ensure your comfort throughout your stay. The Birth Centre also offers kitchen facilities and family and children play area.
Calvary Public Hospital supports 24 hour rooming in for all healthy mothers and babies. Midwives are also available to support you during this time.
If you have had an uncomplicated birth, it is expected that you will go home within 24 hours provided mother and baby are well. If you have experienced any complications during your labour and birth, you can expect to stay 2-3 nights before going home.
