Pelvic floor care and incontinence
During pregnancy and childbirth your pelvic floor muscles come under great strain. It is important to practice pelvic floor exercises regularly to help prevent or lessen the severity of what is known as stress incontinence. Pregnancy stretches the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to weaken. This may mean that you find yourself leaking urine when you cough, sneeze or strain. This is quite common and there are exercises that you can do during pregnancy and after the birth to reduce the strain on your muscles. If you feel this is a problem for you it is advised to speak with your GP, midwife or health care provider as there are many resources and services available to help.
